Wolfgang Wagner 2015-06-22

Wolfgang will explain the core concepts of Doctus and do some live coding. Doctus is a Scala library for the creation of visual art pieces. It is based on the ideas of Processing but uses Scala as a programming language. Projects can create images on multiple platforms. Currently Swing and HTML5-Canvas are supported.

How Scala supports Clean Architecture

Sebastian Nozzi 2015-06-22

In this talk Sebastian explores the idea behind a "clean architecture" (also known as "hexagonal" or "onion") and how he thinks many features of Scala as a language, but also as a programming "culture", make implementing them easier than within other languages / frameworks / cultures (e.g. Rails).

Typesafe ConductR

Lutz Hühnken 2015-05-20

Running multiple (micro-)services on multiple nodes in a cluster, in a fail-safe way, scaling them, and updating them, can be a challenge for the operations or devops teams. Typesafe ConductR has entered the arena to make things simpler: Build a bundle, load it into the ConductR cluster, tell it how many instances you want to run in parallel, done. I will give a very brief overview of ConductR, and a little live demo of ConductR in action.

Reactive Slick - The Principles Behind Slick 3

Lutz Hühnken 2015-05-20

Slick (“Scala Language-Integrated Connection Kit”) is Typesafe‘s Functional Relational Mapping (FRM) library for Scala that makes it easy to work with relational databases. It allows you to work with stored data almost as if you were using Scala collections, while at the same time giving you full control over when a database access happens and which data is transferred.

The third major release brings it to a new level. It provides the new DBIO type for nicely sequencing your database actions, streaming results through Reactive Streams, and an asynchronous interface on top of the blocking JDBC API with clever threading and connection pool management.
